Susanne Tabata is a music and culture fan, UBC college-radio DJ and on-camera TV host for the pioneering music video program Nite Dreems. She is also the creator of Bloodied But Unbowed – the documentary film which chronicles the Vancouver punk scene of the late 1970s. The film screens around the world, including a 28-day run in Shibuya, Tokyo and won the Berlin International Punk Film Festival Audience Choice Award. The Bloodied But Unbowed project is the third in a series of films which explore worlds on the edge of mainstream culture, the other being the womens’ skateboarding history film Skategirl (FOXFuel, Los Angeles) – for which Tabata won $100.000 in the Fuel Experiment competing against 300 filmmakers – and the west coast surfing history film 49 Degrees (CBC, FOXFuel). Susanne also produced the Jason Priestley directed Barenaked in America documentary which chronicles the US tour of the Canadian band The Barenaked Ladies, which was an official selection at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Susanne is also a Part-time college instructor.
